Biiwow Books — Terms of Service
Version 1.0 · effective 5 October 2026. These Terms are shown in the app before you create an account and at any time under Terms & privacy. Earlier drafts (0.1–0.2, September 2026) were never published.
1. Who we are
Biiwow Books is operated by biiwow, a sole proprietorship registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 42145985, Netherlands ("biiwow", "we"). Contact: support@biiwow.com. Our registered address is stated on every invoice and is available on request. These Terms govern your use of the Biiwow Books web application at biiwow-books.elena-marselis.workers.dev and any address we later move it to.
2. What Biiwow Books is — and is not
Biiwow Books is a personal cataloguing tool. You can add books by photographing a shelf, a pile or a cover, by scanning a barcode, by typing an ISBN or a title, by importing a list from another service, or by sending a screenshot of a reading or listening app. The app then keeps, for you alone: what you own, what you are reading, what you have lent to whom, what you plan to give away, what you want next, and suggestions drawn from your own shelves.
We do not own, sell, review, endorse or host any book. The app stores only the details you and public catalogues provide about books you say you own. We make no statement about the content, quality, legality, price or availability of any book.
Automated systems and their limits. Photo and screenshot recognition, language detection, cover matching, metadata matching and the "New to you" picks are produced by automated systems (an AI vision model and rule-based matching against an open catalogue). Every such result can be incomplete, outdated or wrong: books can be missed, merged or misread, covers and editions can be mismatched, languages can be misdetected, and suggestions may not suit you. Every result is shown to you before it is saved and can be corrected or removed. Nothing the app shows is advice of any kind, and nothing it shows is a decision made for you.
3. Your account
You need an account with a verified email address, and you must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in your country, if higher). Keep your password to yourself; everything done with your account is treated as done by you. One person, one account. We may give some accounts lifetime access free of charge at our discretion; such a gift carries the standard allowances of the yearly plan unless we tell you otherwise, is personal, and can be withdrawn only if these Terms are breached.
4. Plans, allowances and limit warnings
| Free plan (always) | Library import (one-time) | Subscription | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Library size | Up to 60 books | Credits for 500 books, used after the free or monthly allowance | Up to 100 new books per calendar month |
| Photo scans | 5 in total (not per month) | Credits for 50 photos, used after the free or monthly allowance | Up to 100 per calendar month (fair use) |
| Barcode, ISBN, search, list imports, covers, recommendations | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
- How counting works. The book allowance counts books successfully added to your library; one photo may add many books, and each added book counts once. Failed scans, re-scans and corrections never count against the book allowance. The photo allowance counts every photo or screenshot sent for recognition, whether or not a book was found: recognition is the only thing that costs us money per use, and the cap keeps the service sustainable. We may adjust allowances as the service grows; changes are announced 30 days in advance and never reduce a paid period you have already bought.
- Warnings. We show a clear in-app notice at about 80 % of an allowance and again when it is used up, stating when it resets (the 1st of the next calendar month) or what else you can do.
- A limit never locks you out. Browsing, searching, editing, reading tracking, lending, the wishlist, export and all non-photo ways of adding stay available. Only photo scanning pauses until the next month, an import, or a subscription; on the free plan, adding pauses when your library holds 60 books.
- Free plan, no trial clock. Every account starts on the free plan and may stay there for as long as you like, with no payment details. Nothing expires and nothing is deleted.
- Library import (one-time purchase). Unlocks credits for 500 books and 50 photos. Credits are drawn on only when your free or monthly allowance is exhausted, never expire, and stay yours if a subscription ends. The yearly subscription includes one import. You may buy the import again.
5. Prices, payment, renewal, cancellation, withdrawal
- Prices include VAT: library import €9.99 once; subscription €2.99 per month or €29.99 per year (the yearly plan includes the library import). The exact amount for your country is shown at checkout before you confirm.
- Payment is taken by Stripe on its secure page; we never see or store card details. Your billing country is used to charge the correct VAT.
- Digital content delivered at once. The library import is unlocked the moment payment completes. By buying it you ask for immediate delivery and acknowledge that the 14-day right of withdrawal ends once the credits are unlocked. If you change your mind within 14 days and have used none of the credits, email us and we refund you in full.
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period at the price then shown in the app. For the yearly plan we email a reminder at least 30 days before renewal. Cancel any time, effective at the end of the paid period, in the app or through the Stripe billing portal; no fees.
- 14-day right of withdrawal on subscriptions. You may withdraw within 14 days of subscribing for a full refund, no questions asked, by emailing support@biiwow.com.
- If a renewal payment fails, full access continues for a 7-day grace period while we retry; afterwards your account moves to the free plan. We never delete a library because of non-payment.
6. Your photos and your data
- Photos and screenshots are never stored. Each image is sent once to the recognition provider, read, and discarded; we keep only the text that was read (titles, authors, language). Details are in the Privacy Notice, which forms part of these Terms.
- Your library, reading history, loans, plans and wishlist are yours and stay available on every plan. You can export everything as a file at any time.
- If you delete your account, deletion becomes final after a 14-day grace period in which you can still export or cancel the deletion. Accounts with no sign-in for 24 months may be deleted after two warning emails.
7. Content, ownership and copyright
- What is yours. Everything you add — titles you type, corrections, notes, borrower names, plans, wishlist entries — remains yours. You grant us only the right to store and display it to you in order to run the service. We never publish it, never use it for advertising, and never train any model on it.
- What is ours. The Biiwow Books software, its design, its name and the biiwow logo are ours (or licensed to us). You may use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes; you may not copy, scrape, resell or reverse-engineer it.
- What belongs to others. Book titles, author names, publication details and cover artwork belong to their authors, publishers and rights holders. Bibliographic data comes from Open Library (Internet Archive), an open catalogue, and is shown unchanged. Cover images are displayed as small identification thumbnails only, fetched from that catalogue through our servers, to help you recognise the books you say you own; we do not claim any right in them and we do not offer them for download. Audible, Kindle, Kobo, Storytel, Goodreads and StoryGraph are trademarks of their owners; Biiwow Books is not affiliated with any of them, and screenshots or exports you send us are your own data.
- Rights holders. If you believe content shown in the app infringes your rights, email support@biiwow.com with the title and the reason; we remove the item or image promptly and tell you what we did.
- Your conduct. You confirm that what you upload is lawful and yours to use, including photos in which other people are incidentally visible, and that you will handle borrowers' names with care (they are visible only to you). No unlawful content, no attacks on the service, no bulk automated use, no resale.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep the service available and correct but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or retire features; if we materially reduce what a paid plan offers, you may cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of any prepaid period. If we ever close Biiwow Books, we will give at least three months' notice and keep export available until the end.
9. Third-party services
We rely on Cloudflare (hosting and database), an AI vision provider (recognition), Open Library (book data and covers), Stripe (payments) and Resend (email). Their data and their availability are outside our control; we are not responsible for the accuracy of third-party book data or for third-party outages, but we remain responsible to you for the service as a whole under these Terms.
10. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided "as is" and biiwow accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of it, including loss caused by relying on a recognition result, a cover, a suggestion or any other automated output without checking it, loss of data you did not export, any purchase, sale, loan, gift or disposal of a book you decide on, or any indirect, consequential or business loss.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under the law of your country of residence — for EU consumers this includes liability for intent or gross negligence, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, and your mandatory consumer rights, including the right to a service performed with reasonable care and skill. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims together is limited to the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or €50 if that is higher.
11. Problems, corrections and complaints
You can correct any wrongly identified book in the app. Reports of wrong results, complaints, privacy requests and consumer-rights requests go to support@biiwow.com; we answer within 14 days. EU consumers may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/odr) and always keep the right to bring claims in their own country.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes are announced by email at least 30 days in advance; if you do not accept a material change, you may cancel with a pro-rata refund of any prepaid period. The current version with its effective date is always available in the app.
13. Governing law
Dutch law applies. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU/EEA, you keep the mandatory consumer protections of your own country and may bring claims before its courts.
